My edited pictures, this is the tool than makes the subject thinner, in the first picture i have thinned her stomach and got rid of her pregnancy bump.
In the second picture i have made the hips thinner and pin pointed certain colours to give it a focus point.

Bartolome Esteban murillo painted this picture that was an inspiration to david lachappelle, he recreated the image in a more modern  way, with a recent celebrity.

This photo has alot of character, and i think this is deffently one of my inspirations because it looks like a fairly complicated picture to do, La chappelle has recreated a famous religious painting as he does with many of his different images. In this photo it is a lady who lost her husband so lachappelle got a look alike in so it looked more realistic.

Changing ideas.

I have decided to change my idea for this project because i want to tie it in more with religion. I think that the idea i had before was to stereotype and cheesy so i decided to use an old picture or painting and recreate it in my own way like la chappelle.

here are some of the main makeup ideas

I think this makeup style is the one i will use because it is more Rock/Heavy metal than the other two.

This one is ok, but they eyes are too bright

i think the eye in this will be too much for the shoot

Although i added these images in confidants that they would go well with what i was going to do, i do not think i will be using them now as the album isn't rock or punk and that is what this makeup style is.

Where and Why

I am going to do my shoot in a church/church yard or just in front of a church wall or brick wall so that i can edit it more in photoshop, as i think it will add to the meaning of the shoot. I will probebly use an old church because they are more quiet and wont get affended if i take a girl in a nuns outfit in there.
PHOTOSHOP: i might use photoshop to add more of a rocky look, for example flames or add i higher contrast to make it more edgy.

I decided to have a nun playing the guitar because its still religion but in a different way. i decided to use the guitar and makeup as a sign of punk/Rock so that the whole cover wasnt just on religion, because it will make the album look like a different artist idea.
Madonna has a variety of different songs therefore i think it would be right to make it into a more lively cover.

Collecting photo ideas

I chose this image of a church because there is nowhere better to do a religious shoot than in a church, "the house of god" Although taking the images could be difficult if the church is not empty.

This image fits in because of everything in it, the alter, the pews and the curtain with the cross at the back to show that it is a house of god.

I  chose this image of an amp because it goes with the guitar and makes it look more realistic, although the amp could be too cheesy and stereotypical because music is normally associated with instruments and speakers.

Although i chose this image because the makeup goes with the electric guitar i think that the image doesn't really fit in, because the album is not rock or punk and that is the style of this makeup.

Rosemary beads are a very good indication of religion, these are normally associated with prison "prison beads" because they are given the prisoners to remind them that crime is bad and is against the governments rules and also the 10 commandments.

 

The electric guitar is very common when shooting for album covers, and is generally the first thing people think about when thinking of bands and music, so i do not think this would be a good idea to contain in the final image.

Although my three ideas all linked in and were the same i like the nun with the guitar best and want to explore the idea a bit more, even though i may not use this for my final idea, the more i explore it the more new ideas could appear.

third idea: i took this picture from the film "the notebook" when they haven't seen each other for years and they finally see each other an again. i think that this is a sign of how love can fit in with religion, because Christians are dedicated to god/Jesus and they follow all the rules in the bible and the 10 commandments.

my first idea: i like this idea because although it has a lot of religious objects in it its still got attitude and something about it that says "Madonna wasn't innocent" although i do not think this will be my final idea because it could be too revealing to go on an album cover for Madonna.

second idea: i prefer this idea because it tells a story that religious people can still have fun, there not as boring as people may think. Although i think this album cover could be a bit "cheesy" because of the electric guitar and the amp. i would rather have something that you have to think about.

This was another idea for the album "like a prayer" before they picked the final idea.
I think that this album cover is to boring and i do not think you would be able to tell who the artist really was by the image. although its based around religion more than the original i think that it doesn't really make any sense.
i like the effect of drawings instead of pictures, this could be a good build up to my final album cover.

Like a virgin Album:
The aim of this album cover is to make her look innocent, in a long dress with flowers and petals, as if shes an innocent child who doesn't do anything wrong. Its like a contrast, because everyone knows that Madonna isn't innocent, but she looks it in the photograph.
the photographer has used a subtle tone of sepia to make it look soft. She also has a slight smerk on her face as if she knows its not true.

Celebration:
on the front of the cover she looks like Marilyn Monroe, who was one of her inspirations, also its very colorful and eye catching so it draw attention to her. It gives Madonna a different appearance and makes you want to look at it more than a black and white photo that most artists used to go for.

Ideas

For my album cover i have 3 main ideas, one being a nun holding an electric guitar! which is the idea i think i am going to use. My album is "like a prayer" so that's why i am linking the nun with the album cover because of religion.
Another idea i have is a lady in her underwear wearing lots of necklaces with crosses on and rosemary beads.
My third idea is to put someone in a nuns outfit, or the virgin Mary and have them getting passionate with a man, because this also shows the contrast as nuns are seen as virgins and only serve god.

Julian opie

Julian Opie was raised in Oxford. After the Dragon School, Oxford, he spent some time at Magdalen College School, in Oxford. Once his studies were completed, he returned to the Chelsea College of Art and became a teacher there.

Marilyn Monroe was a huge inspiration to madonna, the way she dressed and her song styles, she wrote a song called "material girl" because of the inspirations of "diamonds are a girls best frriend" by Marilyn Monroe.

 Gwen stafani is also inspired by madonna and marilyn monroe, she follows there dress sence, song styles and attitude towards music.

christina aguliera is also an artist who is inspired by marilyn monroes dress sence, style and music, but she turns it into a more up to date modern version.

Pictures are files

When an image is captured by a camera or a scanning device is has to be saved or memorised in a "file format" The information can only be read and understood if the software recognises the format.

The formats are:
JPEG (joint photographic experts group).jpg
TIFF (tagged image file formats).tif
PSD (photoshop documents).psd
RAW (raw unexpressed information).raw

File>save as- This opens up numerous options for the photoshop/PC users for simplicity, it is advisable that you save your work as either a tiff or psd file because they support all of the photoshops features. Not not all formats support layers.

TIFF- this format is generally regarded as the industry standard because its the most universally recognised format. Photoshops variant of this format supports image layers, adjustments, paths, clipping and ICC profiles.

Its the most popular format for photographers delivering RGB am CMYK files to clients, its good practice to flatten files because only photoshop supports layered tiffs.

PSD- photoshops native format supports everything photoshop can do inclduing ICC profiles until version 6 it was the only format that supported layers. Thid format is only recognised by photoshop so it is not advisable when handing PSD files to clients.

JPEG- The most commonly used file format. It has "lossy" compression that transmits what it dreams to be improtant that it considers redundant. there is no option to save without compression but embedding ICC profile is optional.

JPEG- allows you to make a trade off between image files size and image quality. jpeg compression divides the image in aquares in 8x8 pixels which are compressed independantly. As you increase compression the sqares become more visable.

100% quality jpeg is very hard to disguise from the uncompressed original typically taking up to 6 times as much storage space.

80% quality jpeg still look good although it is 10 times smaller than the uncompressed original some deteriations will occur.

Like a prayer, is kind of a love song, that she is relating to someone as her "angel" and she thinks the world of that person. it could be anyone from a relative or a relationship lover.
I like this song because it isnt a love song like other artists have sung, you cant tell what kind of love it is, it could be love towards a man or to a close relative etc. It proves that love songs arnt generally about heartbreak and missing your boyfriend-girlfriend.

Keep it together, is a song about family and life in the family. it summarises generally how she  feels about her family life.
I like this song because its about family and love for one and other, it shows how life is when growing up and how nice or horrible your family can turn out to be.

This is the album cover i have selected.
I decided to use this album because i know the song and so i can relate to the album a bit better than if i chose an artist i didn't know of.
Although their's not really anything religious about this album cover i think that the soft colors, necklaces and rings give a message on religion. The soft colors could be the sign of an angel, because its almost as if the subject is glowing. and the necklaces and rings contain crosses on some of them, therefore is a sign of religion.
